Line bending
Specialised equipment allows us to line bend acrylics, polycarbonates & foam PVC's.
Line bending is a process whereby a piece of plastic is bent along a narrowly defined "line".
This process allows items such as display stands, leaflet dispensers, detail pockets and acrylic signs to be fabricated from flat material.
We have line bending equipment which allows us to bend acrylic along a line up to 2.4m in length.
With line bending you can make all kinds of plastic structures
What can you do with line bending?
You can design formed plastic components which we can machine with CNC and then form with our line benders.
Line bending gives you precise control over a narrow strip of your material- this facilitates a smooth, neat bend.
The combination of precision CNC and line bending allows precise components to be formed time and again.
Line bending- the process
All plastic based sign and display materials can be bent
with our equipment.
Specifically designed for the job our line benders can be adjusted for material
composition, thickness and speed of bend.
The part to be bent is place over the line bender in the correct position and left to heat. The length taken to heat sufficiently is dependent on the type of material and it's thickness.
Thicker acrylics take longer whilst thin PVC is pliable within a minute or two.
Once the correct temperature has transferred to the material it can be bent using the lightest of pressure.
Once at the right angle to whole piece is transferred to a jig to allow for cooling.
Precise temperature control
The system we have has precise temperature control w
hich means most kinds of
flat plastic sheeting can be easily bent and shaped.
To get the best bending results from any kind of plastic you need precise control over the heated area and the temperature at which the elements are running.
By using a proper line bending system specifically designed for the task we can achieve superb results.
What length can we line bend?
We have two matched 4ft (1.2m) line benders. These can be used in tandem for thick materials or laid end to end for line bending up to 8ft (2.4m) long.
The maximum thickness we can handle is around 15mm.
Jigs, templates and formers
These can all be made on our CNC systems to facilitate batch production of any design or configuration of bends.
