Following extensive product development and testing we are now able to offer you a whole new way to make dimensional signage. Unlike the problems caused by MDF and other wood based materials our carved foam letters are rot reistant, waterproof and give you all the qualities you are looking for with the thickness you need for the results you need.
Carved foam letters- what are they made of?
Our carved foam letters are made from a special man made foam material. Our material is totally weatherproof, completely waterproof and has fire retardant properties.
You can easily expect our sign foam material to last many years without any problems.
Is our carving foam similar to HDU?
HDU or high density urethane has been used for many years in the United
States.
Whilst our material has similar properties to HDU it is a different
chemical composition.
Our foam is a European product which is much cheaper than HDU. When doing our research and development on this product we found that traditional, thick foam based material was very expensive. Our product is much, much cheaper.
How do we make these carved foam letters?
Foam can be cut in two dimensions to give a flat letter or logo with extra thickness. To really show the benefits of this material we use our 3D capability to carve letters which are rounded or triangulated in shape- this can be applied to most typefaces.
This principal can be applied to sign blanks and panels- we can create complex designs with raised elements and machined recesses.
Applying a decorative finish
Carving foam is a Cream colour in it's natural state. Unlike polystyrene our foam product can be painted with virtually any paint- including car paints.
A few coats are required but it is perfectly possible to get a smooth, flawless finish.
Carve foam can be filled with a light decorators filler and we can bond standard fixings onto the material.
Hard finishing
The beauty of our carve foam is the softness of the material- this makes is quick to machine and allows it to hold a fine shape easily.
In real life applications this softness could be a problem.
To overcome this we have developed a special hardening system which creates a hard outer shell on the finished foam part.
An exciting product
For sign makers a thick panel material which can be used externally is very welcome. Although MDF can be used at thickness outside it does require extensive preparation and carries a lot of density and hence weight.
With carve foam you start with a base material that does not rot and is totally impervious to water.
From then on it's just a question of applying a decorative finish.
As primers and sealers are not needed you have a much shorter route to the finished product.
